Today we practiced calculating speeds using the Iditerod for examples. We calculated the average speed of Susan Butchers 1986 winning dog sled team. It turned out to be 4.03 miles/hr which seemed slow until we realised that the total time of 279 hrs over 1125 miles did not take into account the amount of rest time the team had.
