Final build day!
Tomorrow we test the cars and see if they work! We will also discuss how you would modify the cars to improve them. The sad news is that we will not be able to improve the car as we do not have enough supplies! You can take them home though if you wish to do that.
Look later for pictures of all the cars.

Today was a big build day!
Many of you experienced a lot of design challenges. Tomorrow is the final build day and Monday will be race day.Take a look at the video below to see a really unusual design and how they are building their mousetrap car.
Some groups today had parts with them to begin the building of the mousetrap car. One group is ready to put the mousetrap on and attach the lever arm!
Remember that the purpose of this in-c;ass project is to follow the design process. if at the end of Thursday your car does not work, you will not be penalized. It is the process that matters. Ask yourselves...
Did I work as a part of the team?
Did I offer ideas
Did I research possible solutions?
Today groups worked on the diagram to show what they hope their car will look like on Thursday when they build. They labeled the diagram with parts and function.

Today is progress report day so while some students were catching up on missing assignments others were enjoying some free time.
Have a great week.
Have fun and be safe!
Today we started a unit on The Technological Design Process. For this mini unit you will be approaching your learning from the STEM viewpoint; combining science engineering technology and math. Your challenge is to build a mousetrap car that travels as far as possible!
This in class project will take you through the design process of :
questioning
brainstorming
researching
build a model
testing
re-design
In the picture the students are researching how different sized wheels affect the distance a mousetrap car travels, by looking a data from a student's work!

From our data we graphed the sunny day walk.
The first graph below shows the three different legs of our journey. Leg 2 is the faster leg and so the line is steeper than the other legs.
The second picture show the whole journey from start to finish. A total of 946m and a time of about 8 minutes depending on your group. you can still see the separate legs of the journey but this time you see the whole journey one 1 graph.

What a beautiful morning to take a walk outside!
as we walked the three different legs of the journey students recorded the time taken for each leg and the distance we traveled. a bonus was that you all got to experience a kilometer!
on Monday we will represent the journey and the three different legs of the journey , as graphs.
The videos below show the three legs of the journey.

Today you took a short quiz based on the work we have done so far. This will be a good check in for us all to see if we are ready to move forward or whether we need to pause and review any of the concepts covered.
Scores will be posted this evening.
We will head out tomorrow to make our motion story!
