Today we learned about cap and trade and we discussed how this helped to reduce carbon emissions, if at all!

Today's task was to research energy sources and recommend energy sources for WA state energy policy.
Most groups decided to support renewable energy sources although 1 group did feel like natural Gas was a useful energy source as it was plentiful and did not emit as much carbon as coal or oil.

We began today looking at the carbon footprints. Too bad that you did not get to see your carbon emissions. Next we went on our 7th observation. Look at the frog pond tab to see details of that visit. There was 1 new organism we saw later in the day!
Our final activity was to begin looking at the energy sources that are used to make electricity that powers all of our homes! This we will continue after the break.

If you have a copy of the Sunday Seattle times bring it to school please!

Today you read about the carbon footprint and took the quiz in www.zerofootprintkids.com.
The program did not work too well but you were still able to talk about how you could reduce your carbon footprint even slightly.. every little bit helps!

Today you looked at the effects of global warming on the ecosystems and specific populations around the world. After reading about the impacts, you summerized the information and presented your findings to the class in the form of a skit.
The best skits were those that presented the findings as a television news article :)

Check out this NPR article called Climate Connections; A Global Journey http://www.npr.org/news/specials/climate/interactive/ (Copy and waste the link to your search bar)

We talked about the activities that we did over the weekend that released carbon into the atmosphere. Caelin won the least 'emmision prize' when he mowed his lawn with a push mower. maybe we all need one of the mowers in the picture!!!

Lab Day

5/18/2012

Today you are typing up the organism field notes. I have created a template as many of you were having trouble figuring out how to format this. Hopefully this helps.
The rubric asks you to describe 4 consumers.
In class next week we will work building the food web and talking about how to answer the questions that you all posed.

Writing MSP day

Well done everyone on your focus, stamina and determination to do your best!
Tomorrow in science you will be in the computer lab coninuing to typw up your observations and your organism research. Please notice in the announcements that you have until June 8th to get your project in a presentation format. if you have not spent your lab time well over the last three weeks you will end up doing some of this work at home!!! BE WARNED!!!

In my attempts to find a more up to date article about the impacts of ocean acidification in the Puget Sound I came across the above article. I thought you might enjoy it!
