I hope you all enjoy working on the science fair this weekend. I was asked to post the layout picture that was on the white board. if you can't read this there is another one in the science fair blog.
See you monday. I am off skiing!
Today you had the opportunity to complete any missing work. I will grade anything I received today but then grades are closed.
I hope you all enjoy working on the science fair this weekend. I was asked to post the layout picture that was on the white board. if you can't read this there is another one in the science fair blog. See you monday. I am off skiing! Today we talked about the discussion of results for the friction lab and re-wrote the part that explains why there is more force needed to pull a block across a rough surface compared to a smooth surface. The video below is one group's edited and improved discussion. Check out the link to the crazy friction song!!!
We talked about using the new vocabulary words:
Balanced unbalanced net force We used these words to support our response to a force question. Practice using these words in the correct context. We then moved into the computer lab with 3 options: 1. Friction lab 2. science fair 3. cool math games. If you did not finish the friction lab you need to do this in your own time and turn it in with a rubric attached. Today you need to finish your lab write up . Before you print please be sure you have all the components you need. Check with me first if you need to .
When you print you need to do your diagram. Check the yellow sheet to be sure you have everything. We will have a final 30 minutes in the computer lab on Tuesday. We begin today by reading about friction and watching a short movie about friction. The information you learn will be used to write your discussion of results. in the lab today you should be working on : The bar graph The conclusion and discussion

Once you have the file open please SAVE AS and save to your science folder BEFORE you begin to type your pre lab. I have included a lab write up template and the procedures. If you don't like using the google docs feel free to open and save the word docs attached below. Use the screen casts if you don't know how to make a data table. Your goal is to type up to and including the data table.
Today in class you are going to share your ideas on Newton's laws and how they are demonstrated in your favorite sport. We are then going to investigate the force of friction and how friction opposes motion. We will begin by looking at different surfaces and investigating whether different surface types have different amounts of friction. This investigation will be typed up by you and turned in to be scored. If you copy and paste the link below there are multiple documents to help you. We will review these together in class on Wednesday. https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B_B8funhhc0ZNnlQd0tFbHgxc3c/edit?usp=sharing
Use newton's 3 laws to explain what happened in the photo!
When you push or pull on an object you are exerting a FORCE on that object. A force is an interaction between masses. (There is no such thing as a push without something to push on.) Motion occurs when forces between 2 objects are unbalanced.
Daniel was not able to measure the force needed to pull up the binder. Why not? What does he need to do?
