Projects!

12/13/2012

My computer is at last cooperating with me!

More importantly WOW what amazing projects! there were 24 students who presented today , with fabulous work. I could tell they were nervous to start with but they did their research so well that the nerves soon left and they spoke eloquently and knowledgeably about their models. Check out the photos in the tabs above.

If you have been absent and wondering what we have been doing , my apologies as my computer has decided not to function well!!

Fossils

Using a model of fossils in rock layers, you used the Law of Superposition to order the rock layers by their relative ages.

Workshop tonight!

Knowing that sedimentary rocks form in horizontal layers what can you infer about the rock feature in this photograph?

It seems from the similarities and differences T charts that there are some similarities between the two areas but there are more differences!

The Lake Missoula floods have dramatically changed the landscape of Washington State. Today you read about the floods, watched a short program about the floods and then discussed the information you saw and heard.
The evidence for the floods is strong and supports the principle of Uniformitarianism, which is one of the cornerstone principles  of geology.

You all did a great job rising to the challenge of finding a rate of sedimentation!

I think the consensus is that there is no way we can publish these results and claim we have a rate of sedimentation that can be used to calculate how long it took for the layers of the Colorado plateau to be formed!! Good job trying though!

I am looking forward to reading your investigation reports. I particularly am interested to see your discussion of results.

The other thing we did today was to annotate a diagram t show the complete process of erosion and deposition tomorrow we will continue that cycle when we talk about the plateau (rock layers) being eroded and the process starts over.

Useful website

12/3/2012

So today we finished the write up for the erosion investigation and some of you had the opportunity to begin research for your projects.

I am gathering a bank of good websites where you might find useful information for your project. look at the earth history project tab.
