Today is progress report day! There are only 14 missing assignments in my grade book for all students in all classes and for all assignments!! Nice work everyone. To those 14 mising assignments please find your way to my late tray!!!

on Monday we will review for the test that you will take on tuesday. The content will be based on your work on conclusions, observations. ABCD diagrams and models.
Have a great weekend!

Humdinger

10/11/2012

Picture
This is a fabulous conceptual model of the drought stopper.

The background knowledge that led to the inference came from a waterpark he visited two years ago!

Yesterday I did not post as I was absent from school but in my absence you all made your good copy of the drought stopper. I will reveal this black box on Monday! If you look on yesterdays post I have added a video of the drought stopper so you can see what it does. ( I hope the link works)

Today you made observations of a new black box. We talked about the background knowledge you have that you could connect to the observations to make a prediction of what it looks like inside. You were making really strong connections, remembering things from when you were younger such as hotel bells, fans, candy dispensers and lots more!

Drought Stopper

You witnessesd today and amazing system that created water!!!!
Your job as scientists is to decide how the system works and how it is made

Testing Ideas

10/8/2012

Today you learned the difference between a physical model and a conceptual model. You built a physical model to test your conceptual black box model!
The video below shows one of the groups talking about their consensus models.

What Does it Mean to be a Scientist?
Scientists often are observing phenomenon that they can not directly see. from these observations they have to make inferences about how the object works or what it is made of. these inferences are made from their observations and their background knowledge.
This is what we explored today in science. The video below shows a team of scientists coming to a consensus about what is inside their black box.

Publishing day 2

10/2/2012

In response to many of you asking "How To.." questions I have made 3 different screencasts that I saw some of you using today! Check out the new Screencast tab to view the "how to" videos.

The two days in the computer lab have been really productive .You all worked hard to get finished on time.

Today you spent time in the lab getting your document ready and typing up the investigation. Most people completed through to the procedures.
I have added a new tab that is titled Screencasts. Please check this out. These are short videos showing you how to use certain functions of the computer programs that you may not be aware of. The first screencast shows you how to make a data table. Hit the play button to view the video. I will also include a screencast to show you how to use Activ inspire to make your diagrams.
