What a lovely sunny weekend. I wonder how the pond ecosystem changed with the hot temperatures? We will today go down and take a look. This will be your 5th or 6th observation at the pond so far this trimester.
Take a look at the photos posted under Frog Pond Ecosystem. You will see a new organism to the pond!

Today you generated many questions about the frog Pond Ecosystem and we sorted them into research questions and observational study questions. We will try to answer many of these questions as we work on this field study.
In the video below Quinn talks about two of the questions. What do you think about his analysis?

Field Study

5/7/2012

Learning target: I can carefully observe organisms in my ecosystem. I can accurately record data from my ecosystem

It was such a lovely day today that we spent most of it working on our field study. In the photo below students were drawing a plant from the boundaries of the ecosystem.
The pond looked very different today compared to last monday. Tomorrow we are giong to make an initial analysis of the biotic and abiotic data to find out what is happening in the pond!!

Today I am at my daughter Daisy's graduation!

You all will be working on typing up you pond observations and researching the organisms we saw.

Good luck at the jazz festival:)

Wednesday was a good review day, practicing how to create food webs from observations of organism interactions. on thursday most of you demonstrated you were able to understand a food web and the information it gives about energy in the ecosystem.
The question a number of you got confused over was:

"Name 2 ways that organisms use the energy that is not passed onto the next trophic level"
